This year, Connected Academics will again sponsor an array of activities at the MLA convention. We hope you will join us for vigorous discussions of issues related to the project, including graduate education reform, PhD career directions, and the value of the humanities in the workplace. Connected Academics events are intended not only for early-career humanists but also for career changers and faculty mentors—anyone who is curious about opportunities for those with advanced training in language and literature, both inside and outside the academy.
The MLA will also hold its second career fair. The Possible Futures Career Fair brings together MLA job seekers with mission-driven organizations who seek experts in education, communication, and languages. Whether you are a graduate student, a recent PhD, or a faculty member or administrator seeking the next stage in your own career, the career fair can help.
Representatives from a variety of organizations will be on hand at the fair to speak to job seekers about career possibilities. Please note that some organizations will have open positions; others are offering informational interviews aimed at helping attendees prepare for jobs outside of the academy.
